Radish night in Oaxaca

The night of radishes is a tradition that has been celebrated for 125 years in Oaxaca every December 23rd, it has its origin in 1897, when farmers from Trinidad de las Huertas, sold vegetables for Christmas and decorated their stands with radishes, here horticulturists participate, hand carving giant radishes creating Oaxacan figures, this tradition distinguishes us in the whole world.

The zocalo of the capital of the state of Oaxaca, in its already traditional "Night of radishes" commemorates every year this unique celebration where the legacy of the people is manifested with the work of those who cultivate the radish; of artisans who give sample of the most creative and unique artistic expressions in the world that shows the talent and creativity of Oaxacan artisans; radishes, immortal flower and totomoxtle are the protagonists in each edition of this magical night.

The works are a work of art where each participant represents in each sculpture their knowledge that has been transmitted by their grandparents, parents and grandchildren from generation to generation; a contest that without a doubt is something special for Oaxacans.
